With a rich history dating back to the late 14th century, Cam Nam, formerly known as Cam Pho village, was initially a barren sandbank amidst the Hoai River. It later became a settlement for migrants from the North who engaged in farming and fishing for their sustenance.

The names Xuyen Trung, Chau Trung, Trung Tin, and Nam Ngan are intertwined with the island's history, signifying the establishment of ancestral hamlets by the Tran, Huynh, Le, and Nguyen clans from the late 15th to the 17th century.

Festival

In 2013, the ward organized the Cẩm Nam Sticky Rice Festival on the 16th day of the first lunar month, an annual event to express gratitude to the ancestors who founded the craft village and to pray for a fruitful rice harvest in the new year. In the early morning, people gathered at Corn Bap and ceremoniously conducted a procession to the Xuyen Trung neighborhood.

Following the ritual, the sticky rice festival took place along the banks of the Hoai River (a branch of the Thu Bon River), featuring around 10,000 ears of corn prepared in various dishes: boiled corn, grilled corn, corn sweet soup, roasted corn, corn cake, corn pudding, etc., serving both residents and participating tourists.

Four unique things you can only find in Cam Nam Island

1. Four-Sided Island: Cam Nam Island is a four-sided enclave surrounded by rivers that eventually merge into the vast sea. Rich in history and folklore, it's a place that feels straight out of a fairy tale within the realm of Hoi An. Today, it floats just adjacent to the ancient town, easily accessible via a bridge.

2. Absence of Gas Stations: Despite comprising three villages (previously four), Cam Nam Island doesn't host any gas stations within its commune.

3. Local Culinary Contributions: Among Hoi An's plethora of famed dishes, Cam Nam Island boasts its culinary contributions, including Mixed Clams, Rice Crackers, and Corn Sweet Soup. These delectable treats await you as soon as you set foot on the island.

4. Mesmerizing Sunset Views: The sunset vista from Cam Nam Bridge is truly unforgettable. With narrow pathways flanking both sides of its two lanes, the bridge offers convenient stops for admiring the town. As the ancient town gradually fades into dusk, the water glistens with golden hues, boats return to dock, and the sun gently dips behind the mountains, leaving an enduring impression on all who witness it.

These unique facets of Cam Nam Island add layers of charm and allure to its already captivating ambiance, making it a must-visit destination for those exploring the enchanting wonders of Hoi An.
